How To Choose And Install A Truck Tent

Truck tents are full sized tents that fit to a truck bed.  They bridge the gap between a tent and a vehicle at the most basic level.  Truck tents are intended to allow campers the tent experience while keeping them off of the ground.  Truck tents are better at repelling water, dirt, and insects than regular tents.

Large and small animals are also less likely to bother campers using truck tents.  Most small animals will not climb into a truck bed, let alone try to get into truck tents.  Campers who want to use a tent but would rather not sleep on the ground, should consider truck tents for their journey.

In addition to providing a place to sleep, truck tents also have other uses.  One popular use for truck tents is to provide shade.  Parents of small children may use them during hot trips to the lake or during sunny tailgates to shade their children.  Children love the idea of playing in truck tents and parents can be sure their kids stay as cool as possible.

Regular Truck Tents

Most truck tents are universal and will fit almost any truck bed made today.  They simply fit the bed of the truck, with the tailgate down.  Regular truck tents do not cover the tailgate of the truck bed.  Truck tents are usually made of nylon and are shaped similar to ground tents.  They have mesh windows for ventilation and zippered doors.

Super Truck Tents

Today’s truck driver can choose from a variety of truck tents.  Truck tents come in different models that offer different luxuries.  Some truck tents include extra room so the tent covers the tailgate as well.  This offers taller campers more comfort.

Other truck tents offer awnings that come out of the top of the tent and sit on the ground behind the truck.  These truck tents allow campers to have a shaded outdoor area to eat or simply lounge.

Installation Information

All truck tents come with complete installation directions.  It is important to read and follow all directions closely.  Truck tents that are not installed according to their specific directions can fall or even break.  Truck tents that are not made for your specific vehicle should be exchanged.  Trying to make truck tents fit a vehicle they are not made for will result in damage to the product.

Remember, when using truck tents, always keep your vehicle shut off. This is to avoid accidentally backing over someone. Camping is a great experience and truck tents make it even more fun, but safety comes first!
